Random Fangirl Tidbits

I've been meaning to post a whole bunch of things on this blog but life keeps getting in the way so I'm going to do one big post full of random. I'll admit it, I'm being lazy by rolling all of these things into one post but if I don't they probably won't get posted. That's my story and I'm sticking to it :)

I'm ridiculously excited about The Avengers, which is out on May 4th. I'm such a geek.

Stephenie Meyer has updated her website with two things that make me giddy. The first being an official Austenland page.

And the second being that she added more info about The Host movie and its official Facebook page. I really liked the Twilight books but I LOVED The Host. I'm crossing my fingers that they don't screw up the movie adaptation.

The second season of Downton Abbey is over and I think I may cry. I own both seasons on DVD. I'm sure I will be re-watching them frequently to help with the withdrawal symptoms. I'm sure I will also be watching many fanmade videos as well. This one is my current favorite. (Beware, it contains MAJOR spoilers!)

My beloved Parlotones have a new album coming out on May 8th. They've released the first single called Save Your Best Bits. I love it. Here's an acoustic version of it-
They are coming back to Salt Lake in June. I'm so excited!!!

The cover for Hidden by Sophie Jordan was released today. It's gorgeous!!

Adele cleaned house at the Grammy's. SO well deserved!!!

I'm offically addicted to Pintrest. I'm not crafty so the majority of my boards are full of sarcastic comments or fangirly pictures. You can follow me here.

Whew! I think that's enough random for now.

Midnight in Austenland Launch Party

On Saturday I was able to go to one of my favorite places, The King's English Bookshop, and hear one of my favorite authors, Shannon Hale, speak about her new book Midnight in Austenland (see my review here). It was a wonderful way to spend a Saturday afternoon!

The event started with Shannon talking about writing Midnight in Austenland. She said she had never planned on writing a sequel to Austenland but when she was working on the script for the Austenland movie adaptation she was inspired to continue the story.

Shannon then answered questions from the audience about what inspires her to write (usually a story she's heard that she has more questions about), about writer's block (allow yourself to write crap), the status of the Austenland movie (it's still in post-production and still doesn't have a release date), and about writing now that she has four children (a babysitter 15 hours a week).

One of the questions was about Shannon's blog post about young adult literature-
(I highly recommend reading the post that prompted the question- you can find it here. You should also read the guest blog she talks about- you can read that here.)

After the Q&A Shannon explained that they had several activities planned to keep people entertained while they were waiting to get their books signed. One of the activities was a murder mystery. Whoever solved the mystery would receive a Ricky Whittle calendar. Ricky plays Captain George East in the Austenland movie.
After Shannon told us about poor Ricky's inability to be photographed with a shirt on she then told us a hysterical story about Ricky from the set of Austenland.

After the story we were introduced to the players in the murder mystery. I didn't stay long enough to learn who killed poor John Dope. I hope his killer was held accountable.

Then Shannon headed to the signing table where she signed a massive amount of  books. I really hope she got a hand massage afterwards.

I picked up an extra autographed copy of Midnight in Austenland to give away. To enter all you have to do is tell me which literary world you would take a vacation to. Would it be Austenland or somewhere else? For me it would either be Austenland, Harry Potter's Wizarding World or Anne's Prince Edward Island. A winner will be randomly chosen on Saturday, February 11th. Make sure you leave an email address in your comment so that I can contact you if you the winner.

I'll leave you with this lovely image-
King's English certainly knows how to entertain a crowd ;)

The Hunger Games Trailer- Take Two!!

A second Hunger Games trailer was released earlier today. I'm not sure how many times I've watched it but I do know it's more than three ;)

AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! Isn't it fantastic?!?!? Go ahead, watch it again, I'll wait.

Because I know you are all waiting on bated breath to know what I think here are my thoughts/comments about it. (Beware- If you haven't read the books there are some slight spoilers)
  • The Mockingjay pin- I wasn't sure how they were going to work it into the story since they didn't put Madge Undersee in the script. I like that they are having Katniss give it to Prim as a good luck charm who I'm sure will give it back to Katniss when she says goodbye after the reaping.
  • Donald Sutherland is the PERFECT President Snow!!! Two lines in the trailer and I was completely creeped out. I can't wait to see more!
  • Effie's enthusiasm about President Snow's comments perfectly embodies the Capitol spirit. It's creepy.
  • Once again, the desperation in that moment that Katniss volunteers as tribute kills me. I've seen it multiple times since it was in the first trailer but seeing it again brought me to tears.
  • Katniss begging Gale to take care of her mom and sister breaks my heart.
  • Katniss in her yellow dress. That is the outfit she wears at the end of the games. It's not as subtle of a yellow as I imagined but it's beautiful. The expression on Katniss's face shows a changed person.
  • I adore Stanley Tucci. He is brilliant in everything that he does. The brief glimpse we get of him as Cesar Flickman tells me I am going to love him even more.
  • There's only a few quick new shots of Peeta but he is my boy with the bread in the ones we've seen before and in the new ones.
  • My sweet Cinna- I have been so worried about the portrayal of Cinna. I wrote an entire blog post about how worried I have been about it. Between the movie still from yesterday (see below) and the beautiful moment we see here in the trailer my fears have been put to rest. I have absolutely no doubt that Lenny  is the perfect Cinna.
  • That four note melody is going to haunt me forever. We didn't see Rue in this trailer but between the three finger salute and the music that is her whistle she was very present.
50 more days!!!
